Bengaluru Cops Say Bystanders To Broadcast Crimes Using Periscope

Bengaluru undoubtedly the city of tech savvy and does the police department. It is one of the first police departments in the country to join Twitter. Police in the city of Bangalore—often called the Silicon Valley of India—want to encourage citizens to live stream crimes as they happen, essentially asking bystanders to broadcast crimes to the Internet in real time.

The first step is to increase engagement and open lines of communication by having local police officers stream press conferences on Periscope. The police commissioner MN Reddi who has 3,00,000+ followers in twitter thinks to adopt the usage of Periscope app to interact more with the public. Reddi says “He has got the idea of using Periscope when he attended a conference organised by Twitter in Mumbai last week.”

As a result, the Bengaluru Cops plan to have Periscope crime videos viewed by a central control room, allowing them to quickly access down the location of a crime and alert the adjacent Police stations.
“Periscope app has other pros like capturing the Signal Jumps, reveal pick pocketers and other offences” adds -Rahul Khursheed, Twitter's head of news, politics and government to the Times.
