We usually find most of the currency notes in the country are filled by scribbling something such as their names or the count number of the bundle. But this is a very bad practice as it makes the way difficult to find a fake Currency Note for RBI. Also these scribbled notes when exchanged in the foreign countries would have a zero value because the currencies which were scribbled are not considered for trading.Indian Government loses crores worth of currency notes, as they are defaced by scribbling on them. This makes us feel insulted when these notes were given for exchange in other countries.
Though the RBI has followed and launched many awareness campaigns on NOT TO SCRIBBLE ON CURRENCY all of them were utterly failed in implementation and were not entered into the hearts of the public.
But then it is the primary duty of every individual of the country to keep our currencies clean. Now the RBI are strictly following thus campaign to make our notes clean. According to notice put up in State Bank of India, they will not accept any notes that have something written on them. Here is the complete notice.
Writing on Currency Notes is Punishable in India
Few would be aware that scribbling on currency notes is a punishable offence in India. Under Section 35A of the Banking Regulation Act 1949, RBI has clearly mentioned that writing and/or scribbling on currency notes and distribution of such defaced notes is punishable and can carry penalty as well. But time and again, we regularly come across instances when people violate this rule.
In the past, newspapers and publications have consistently highlighted this issue and even shared stories how this practice negatively affects Indian economy and as a result thousands of crores of rupees are wasted every year.
We believe that growth and progress of a nation should start with us. Responsible citizens should be aware that such immature and irresponsible behavior will only bring our economy down and halt our economic progress. We request all our readers to spread this message and stop scribbling and defacing currency notes at all levels.
